Player Profiles

by IM Torbjørn Ringdal Hansen

In a series of articles we present the ten players on the Norwegian national teams in the 2008 Olympiad. In both teams we find young and talented players, and there are even younger players who are doing their utmost to get into the teams. Both teams will undoubtedly be stronger in five years time. In other words: The prospects are good for 2014.

The women’s team is coached by Grandmaster Rune Djurhuus and consists of young but at the same time experienced players. There are no big stars; instead there are several players with similar strength who fight for board number one.

The team in the Open section in Dresden was led by Norway’s great star, GM Magnus Carlsen. If the other players can pick up a few tricks from Magnus – and we are sure they will – the Norwegian team in 2014 will definitely be a force to reckon with.
